Getting started on Mac

Recast runs in the menu bar. Drag a supported file from Finder to the top center of your display, or choose Show Drop Area from the Recast menu. Choose an output format and save location, then start the conversion. A physical notch is not required.

Saving files

If macOS asks for folder access, select a folder where you want to save the results. Recast preserves original files and avoids overwriting existing output files. Completed results can be revealed in Finder.

Conversion results

Available outputs depend on your files and macOS version. PDF-to-document conversion creates editable text, without preserving the original layout, images, or table structure. Office formatting can vary with fonts and document complexity. OCR accuracy depends on the source and macOS language support.

Reporting an issue

Please include your Recast version, macOS version, input and output formats, and any error message. A short description of what happened helps us investigate. Avoid sending sensitive files; a small, non-sensitive example is preferable when a sample is necessary.

Recast for Mac requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Conversion takes place on your device. Learn more in our Privacy Policy.
